To ring in the New Year, I decided to attend the N.Y.E.L.A event in DTLA's Grand Park. Going there for this event has become more of a tradition as I have attended the past two years including its inception. Another tradition, involves taking the LA Metro Gold Line from the Atlantic Station. I knew this was going to be an exciting night.

Train arriving. I then boarded the train and then made it to the Little Tokyo Station. I disembarked from there and entered Little Tokyo where I was again greeted with seeing the yellow crane which is the project site of the upcoming Regional Connector project from LA Metro. This significant project will allow greater ease of travel as it will reduce the need for transfers. For more information about this project check out LA Metro's website. I also got to take additional pictures of Little Tokyo:
After, I continued walking westward on 1st Street and arrived at the Civic Center area. I could see the Grand Park event, but I made a slight detour for dinner. I decided I would have dinner at Umami Burger which is located near the well known Ace Hotel. On the way, along Los Angeles Street, I got a chance to take some pictures of Vibiana, LA's first Archdiocese Catholic cathedral, which is now an event venue (Vibiana Website).
The construction crane next to Vibiana is the upcoming Vibiana Lofts. A seven story apartment mixed use project from Holland Partners which will have a total of 238 rental units (source). Holland Partners is also in the process of getting construction started on their high rise project at 8th and Spring. See previous coverage from LAOCDB for more details.

I continued walking down Los Angeles Street until I reached the border of Skid Row and then made a right on to 3rd Street. From there I reached the Historic Core in DTLA and got a chance to take pictures of the amazing historic buildings.
I made a quick detour on to Spring Street and got to see the lights at The Old Bank District. This is located on Spring and 4th. I remember seeing this before attending the first Grand Park event. It's always a great sight to see the lights:

Looking eastward on 4th street at Spring Street, to the right is the Continental Building (formerly known as Braly Block). This was LA's first high rise building built in 1903 standing at 13 stories (151 feet tall) (Source).

After, I continued my journey down Broadway and taking pictures of the various historic buildings and it was great to see pedestrian activity along this corridor.
I was elated to eat dinner at Umami Burger and opted to sit outside especially because the inside was full and there was a waiting time.
The above image gallery shows the view from where I sat for dinner. Notice the Broadway Trade Center building is being rehabbed. After dinner, I made my way back up north on Broadway to get to Grand Park. Before reaching Grand Park, I took some additional pictures including some of the Wilshire Grand tower.
Also passed by Clifton's Cafeteria and people were waiting in line to enter.

Eventually, I finally made it to Grand Park and here are pictures from the event:

After the Countdown, I took some more pictures before I hopped on the subway to Union Station.

The picture above was taken at Hill and 1st Street. Looking east on 1st Street.
I got to the Pershing Square Station and entered the subway entrance. Before going through the turnstile, I was asked a request by a random gentleman asking for a photo. At first I was reluctant, but I said to myself, "Why not?". Before leaving I said Happy New Year and made my way to the train.

I arrived at Union Station, and then had to transfer at the Gold Line Station. I noticed many passengers waiting for the Northbound train which goes to location such as Highland Park and Pasadena.
It was great to be able to attend the New Year's Eve event and got to experience more of DTLA. I greatly look forward to the next event. I would like to greatly thank the readers and I look forward to reporting about more developments occurring in LA and OC. Happy New Year!
