8th and Olive Continuing its Vertical Rise

8th and Olive located at 801 Olive in Downtown Los Angeles is a high rise mixed use project from Carmel Partners Investment Company, LLC (Developer). The Developer is based from San Francisco. Originally, the tower was to be 27 stories, however the tower will now be 33 stories. 

According to The City of Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety Permit Information on 801 S Olive Street, the project entails a total of 363 residential dwelling units (DU) and 10,000 square feet of retail space. 

Prior to the now under construction mixed use tower project, the site was formerly a parking lot. The tower was originally planned to be 27 stories (317 feet tall) and was designed by GMP Architects:

Instead, the Developer hired Solomon Cordwell Buenz for the redesign of the now 33 story tower (source).

Right across the street from the Project is another mixed use development from Carmel Partners called eighth & grand. This is a low-rise project and has a Whole Foods at the ground floor. For more information about eight and grand check out their official website. The arrival of Whole Foods in Downtown Los Angeles made a huge headline across the news media (e.g., LA Times, CBS, DT News).
